Weipa, Cape York – A True Australian Flats Fishing Paradise / Weipa, the gateway to the western Cape, is situated on the eastern side of the Gulf of Carpentaria and represents one of the final frontiers of fly fishing, where this remote location has zero fishing pressure and offers unmatched fishing found nowhere else on Earth. What sets Weipa apart is its extraordinary species diversity—anglers routinely catch between 30 and 40 different species in a single week, including trophy-sized Anak Permit (Indo-Pacific Permit), Blue Bastards, Milkfish, Barramundi, Black Spotted Tuskfish, Queenfish, Golden Trevally, GT’s, multiple Trevally species, and Longtail Tuna. The fishing environment is equally diverse, with anglers sight-casting on shallow flats, exploring thousands of mangrove-lined channels, chasing Cobia and Golden Trevally on the backs of rays along pristine beaches, and venturing into bluewater for pelagic species. Having banned commercial fishing for many years, the region boasts some of the most pristine ecosystems on the entire Cape, creating a true wilderness experience where trophy fish have never seen a fly and every day brings the thrill of discovery in one of Australia’s most spectacular and untouched saltwater fisheries.

at its edge lies the Cape’s “Mecca” and Aussie Fly Fisher’s north Queensland lodge –Weipa. Although remote,

With bespoke options available, our all-inclusive trips typically run as 4 day/5 night, 5 day/6 night or 6 day/7 night programs.
Each day anglers fish a diversity of flats, river systems and creeks, returning to our own Fly Fishing Lodge to relax in comfort and immerse themselves in the Australian saltwater fly fishing scene. Fishing is aboard our two American Made dedicated fibreglass skiffs with a 2 Angler : 1 Guide ratio. For those seeking adventure, helicopter options and /or adventure camp options can be arranged to access more remote sections of the Cape.
Lunch is traditionally taken with you and dinners are either home cooked or pub style, with plenty of opportunities to experience the local seafood available. It is not uncommon to encounter over 30 species over the course of a weeks’ fishing. Anglers can chase high- speed pelagics like Tuna and Mackerel close inshore, sight fish on the river mouth flats for trevally, queenfish, barramundi, giant herring or hit the reefs for coral trout, red bass and mangrove jacks.

Arrive at Weipa Airport. Your Aussie Fly fisher guide will greet you at the airport and transfer guests to The
Cape Lodge for the week.
Our Lodge has twin share or private room with ensuite options available, with all your creature comforts
including internet and Wi Fi, fly tying stations (all equipment provided) with home style and/or nearby pub
meals included.
Guests have the afternoon to settle in.
Breakfast is typically served from 7.00am each day, however packed breakfast options are available for earlier
starts. Our guide will pick you up at 8.00am. Packed lunches, beverages and snacks are included. Each fishing
day runs to around 4.00pm-5.00pm depending on fishing.
At the end of each day guests are returned to the lodge where you can relax for the evening.
Guests will be transferred to Weipa airport for their flights home
Flights are booked to Weipa, Queensland, Australia. QANTAS Airways offers connections from all major Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, and Darwin, with arrivals within a day. Once you land in Weipa, all transfers and ground transportation are included as part of your trip.
Visa Requirements for International Guests / All international visitors will need a valid Australian visa to enter the country unless they are Australian citizens. New Zealand passport holders can apply for a visa upon arrival in Australia. All other passport holders, regardless of age, must apply for a visa before departing from their home country.
You can apply for a range of Australian visa types, including tourist and working holiday visas, via the ETA app or through the Department of Home Affairs website. Please note that visa approvals have been known to take upwards of 30 business days, though most are approved within a week depending on the traveler’s circumstances. To avoid any frustration or delays, we strongly recommend arranging your visa well in advance of your trip.
A deposit of 40% is required to confirm your reservation and secure your space. The final balance payment will be due approximately 90 days prior to your trip departure date.
Cancellations made within 90 days of the trip are non-refundable unless the guest finds a replacement to take their place. Once final payment has been made, the full amount is non-refundable unless a replacement guest is secured by you. We recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to protect your investment against unforeseen circumstances.
